About the Coalition

The Coalition for Cyclist Safety is a road safety initiative that unites leaders and stakeholders from telecommunications, automotive, V2X technology, the bicycle industry, research institutes, and cyclist safety organizations. It aims to integrate bicycles into a V2X communication ecosystem, making them digitally visible to other road users and improving safety outcomes. Established in response to the USDOT's call for comprehensive road safety strategies, the Coalition drives V2X deployments by uniting relevant parties who can contribute and implement solutions to enhance road safety, beginning in North America with expansion to Europe.

The Coalition was created to bring together leaders from diverse industries to address the urgent need for safer mobility solutions for cyclists and vulnerable road users, aligning with Vision Zero goals.

Our members include automotive OEMs, bicycle OEMs, telecom companies, tech industry leaders, safety organizations, research institutes, and cyclist safety organizations, all committed to advancing road safety through V2X deployment. An overview of all members is available on our Members page.

The Coalition fosters collaboration between its diverse members, spanning telecommunications, automotive, V2X technology, and the bicycle industry, to share insights and expertise. This drives the development and deployment of V2X technologies designed to improve safety for cyclists and vulnerable road users. A core aspect of our operation is advocating for clear policies that improve safety outcomes. We are committed to turning ideas into tangible actions, deploying V2X solutions in North America, and engaging in advocacy, education, and public awareness campaigns.

The Coalition aims to increase adoption through several approaches: integrating bicycles into the V2X ecosystem from the start; collaborating with cycling advocates to establish safer cycling environments; working with regulators and road operators to deploy clear policies; driving deployment of regionally relevant V2X solutions; positioning V2X as an effective tool for Vision Zero goals; and promoting cyclist safety through advocacy and public engagement.

V2X Technology

V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) technology enables vehicles, bicycles, and infrastructure to communicate with each other. This technology enhances awareness by delivering early warnings to drivers and cyclists, improving mutual visibility and helping to address common crash scenarios.

The Coalition brings together industry leaders including telecom companies, tech innovators, automotive OEMs, and bicycle OEMs to collaborate on V2X deployment. By facilitating partnerships, sharing expertise, and driving coordinated efforts, the Coalition ensures V2X solutions are effectively implemented to improve safety for cyclists and vulnerable road users.
