The Coalition for Cyclist Safety took part in the International Transport Forum (ITF) in Leipzig, where the Coalition had the opportunity to show why greater cyclist safety is a key enabler of sustainable mobility, climate goals, and Vision Zero.

One of the most valuable takeaways from the event was the exchange with stakeholders across sectors. Those conversations reinforced the need to think of road space as a system, because only then can it become more democratic, safer, and truly accessible for different modes of transport, including bicycles.

Too many critical situations begin with the same sentence: “I didn’t see you.”

This is where connected mobility can help. V2X technology can make bicycles and vehicles aware of each other earlier, digitally, even before physical line of sight exists.

The Coalition also used the event to show that early, tangible use cases are essential for building acceptance and achieving the market penetration this technology needs. Green phase prioritization is one such example. When connectivity delivers an immediate and noticeable benefit in everyday mobility, its value becomes much easier to understand.

The Coalition’s presence at ITF was made possible by Razvan Racu and Jannis Fritz from Volkswagen Group, Nico Ostendorf from Bosch, and partner DEKRA, who enabled the demonstration and exchange on the ground in Leipzig.

The Coalition for Cyclist Safety leaves Leipzig with valuable ideas, new connections, and real momentum for a safer, more connected, and more inclusive mobility system.
